David Bentley Music

David Bentley Trio plus One

Jazz pianist/songwriter David Bentley is joined by three of Australia’s finest musicians – elegant bassist Andrew Shaw, empathetic drummer Nathan Goldman and superb reedman Mark Spencer – on Friday, March 31, at Brisbane Jazz Club, Annie Street Kangaroo Point.
As a pianist/songwriter/singer, David’s first love is jazz, though with leaning to the blues. Growing up, he was captivated by Mose Allison. Since then, he has been influenced by many, many jazz artists…Oscar Peterson, Cedar Walton, Les McCann, McCoy Tyner and Gene Harris to name a few.
As a songwriter, David is internationally known as the author of In A Broken Dream, written when he was leader of rhythm n blues band Python Lee Jackson.  The track, featuring Rod Stewart on vocals, became a hit in Europe and the United States during the early 70s.

More recently, the same track (retitled as Every Day) was again globally successful as a remix by Harlem rapper Rock A$ap. The song endures as a rock classic (hear Simon Le Bon, of Duran Duran, deliver a symphonic version on youtube).
Andrew Shaw is bassist of choice for both local, interstate and international artists. He brings sensitivity and style to any performance.

Percussionist Nathan Goldman brings creative power to the lineup. Highly accomplished and swinging – yet attuned to nuances, Nathan is truly one of Australia’s finest drummers.
Tenor player Mark Spencer, an intuitive and expressive musician, studied in New York with saxophone greats George Coleman and Chris Potter, later taking up a teaching post at the Queensland Conservatorium before relocating to the Sunshine Coast.
